WHY DO YOU LIKE HUGS?
WITH WHO DO YOU HUG THE MOST?
Strangers as I offer free hugs to strangers twice a month in Chicago and each time I give out anywhere from 50 to 150 hugs.
IS THERE A ONE PARTICULAR HUG THAT YOU WOULD POINT OUT AS YOUR FAVOURITE?
I have been offering free hugs for 9 years (1/26), so there are so many that stand out, but two in particular that are hard to decide between are: an elderly lady getting a hug from me saying her husband died two weeks earlier and she missed his hugs; after hundreds and hundreds of protesters walked past us protesting police brutality, three police officers who were there making sure the protest was peaceful came through our line for a hug and thanked us for being there. You could see it in their eyes that they too were suffering because of a few cops.
IS THERE SOMEONE YOU OWE A HUG?
My dad has been gone for 10 years and I'd sure love to give him a hug. He loved me dearly but was not a demonstrative man, so our hugs weren't often enough.
IF YOU COULD PICK ANYONE, WHO WOULD YOU HUG?
Juan Mann as he originated free hugs. Desmond Tutu as he joined me twice for Global Free Hugs and is a reminder to me to always go for what you want as he simply (his staff) responded to my email to his info@ email address. Amma because she is hugs. Goodness, you want one? You'll have to choose what to use as there are so many. Barack and Michelle Obama for always taking the high road with all the obstacles that were thrown their way. Michael Franti because he comes and gives hugs after his concert but I haven't gotten one yet. Ricky Martin because he's dreamy. Anyone who is in the midst of grief and needs to be held to know they matter.
AND LASTLY, GIVE US ONE DAMN GOOD REASON WHY WE SHOULD ALL HUG MORE?
Because it's a silent way to say you matter to me.
