Hug More Interview Series – Carola Berjón Alvarez
She enjoys playing with words, and if you read this interview you'll see for yourself : ). She is all about having dreams worth fighting for and stories worth telling. She loves to say for herself that she was "born as a traveler" and the thing she loves the most about traveling is meeting other travellers and having friends around the world. She, like us, believes in hugs. She is an Art Historian and her best colour in the whole world is yellow. Her name is Carola.
WHY DO YOU LIKE HUGS?
I like hugs because they are the purest thing we can offer to the world. When all is said and done, we still have one magical thing to do, we can share who we are and what we feel through a hug. Hugs are the key to an open communication, they build a sense of safety, empathy and understanding.
For me, a hug is the physical prove that something greater than us exists. It ́s the affirmation of love. Of how two completely different people can sense love at the same moment. Hugs are universal and free, they don ́t care about differences, they are made to be given to everyone. They create connection between people, teach us to give and receive and remind us that love is meant to be shared.
But most of all, I believe hugs are the most beautiful gift God gave to us. He knew we would sometimes find it hard to express our feelings and thoughts, so He gave us the capacity to hug. I think He manifests in the world every time we give a hug.
For me, hugging is the ultimate form of praying. When I hug someone I ́m praying through my arms. I am sending my best wishesto their way and asking God that they will feel how loved and special they are.
WITH WHO DO YOU HUG THE MOST?
My family. I am so much into hugs. So we hug each other very often; especially mom. We try to make sure we are there for each other. Unconditionally. And hugs seem to be the perfect way to express our love when words aren ́t enough. I also love to hug my boyfriend. His hugs make me feel at home. So protected and loved.
IS THERE A ONE PARTICULAR HUG THAT YOU WOULD POINT OUT AS YOUR FAVOURITE?
I think one of the hugs i treasure the most is when I came back home after living in the Holy Land for some months. Even though I talked every day with my family on skype or on the phone, there is nothing like holding them in your arms again.
Other hugs that are very special to me are the one ́s I give on New Year Eve. When the new year starts, all my family and I celebrate it with hugs. For me it is the most special way to say that no matter what, the important thing about life is having someone to share it with. Starting a year with a hug is so exciting... it ́s the promise of a new year filled with love and adventures together. It teaches me that time can pass, but the power of a hug will never fade.
IS THERE SOMEONE YOU OWE A HUG?
Hugging is on my nature, it ́s part of who I am, so I always try to make sure I let my dear ones know how much I cherish them and I fill them with hugs. I can ́t think of anyone i regret not hugging right now... but i would like to hug all the people that i love again and again. All the time.
IF YOU COULD PICK ANYONE, WHO WOULD YOU HUG?
First of all, my grandma. There isn ́t a single day where I don ́t wish I could hug her again. I miss her soft and loving arms with all my heart.
Second, i would love to hug Saint Mother Teresa. I deeply admire her and i would love to let her know how much she impacted the world with a hug. I want to give back to her a bit of all the love she gave to the world.
Third, I would love to hug everyone who is feeling alone right now. A person who feels as if he/she is not enough. A person to whom the world has failed to express love. I would like to hold them in my arms for hours till they found out how important they are and that no one should ever give up on love.
And of course... if we could hug anyone.... why not to hug JESUS!!!!!! I would love to hug him and thank him for giving meaning to my life.
AND LASTLY, GIVE US ONE DAMN GOOD REASON WHY WE SHOULD ALL HUG MORE?
Because I deeply believe hugs can change the world.
If we make an effort to hug each other instead of hurting with words, we can change the perspective we have about the world. We could start sensing that in the end, we all seek the same thing: LOVE.
One thing I do with my boyfriend whenever we feel upset or discuss, is to take some time and hug each other. After that, we both feel more connected and the problem start to blur. Instead of hurting each other or saying things we could regret afterwards, we realize that the love we have for each other is bigger and greater than our problems. We get reminded that we are a team and together we can find a solution to whatever we go through.
I think if we just did this same thing with everyone, we would feel much more connected with the world and so, peace, joy and love would reign.
